Best Slimming World Crispy Chilli Beef
Recipe: Crispy Chilli Beef
This take on a Chinese Takeaway favourite of mine is full of flavour and heat. I often love this dish from my local takeaway, but I always regret eating it later because it is so oily and greasy.
This homemade version is not oily or greasy, and you can comfortably eat it on Slimming World with almost no syns consumed. The whole recipe makes four portions with a total of 4 syns, that's one syn per share. Ideal if you want a fakeaway tonight and you haven't saved your syns in advance.
The recipe can be changed to suit your taste buds too. If you like it spicy, add a full chilli instead of half a chilli. If you don't like it as spicy, but love the sweetness and texture, then don't add the chilli at all. If it's still not hot enough for you, add a couple of drops of hot sauce (Tabasco for example) to make you sweat.
We cook the Beef in this recipe in the oven. Your local takeaway will cook it in a Wok with Oil to make it crispy – but we're trying to eat healthy here. Coating in a small amount of egg and flour and baking it instead will bring some crisp to it. My top tip is not to leave the cooked beef strips in the sauce for very long. Add it at the last minute before serving, this way it keeps it's crisp better.
Batch Cooking
If you're into batch cooking and you need to know if you can cook/store this, well, you can, kind of.
I wouldn't at all recommend freezing as the Beef will lose its crispiness. It will just go soggy and let's face it; the dish wouldn't be Crispy Chilli Beef then.
If you were to cook Beef and sauce as directed but keep them separate, then you could refrigerate them. Allow the Beef and Sauce to cool in different containers and chill them in air-tight containers. The dish will keep for up to 3 days in the fridge.
Reheating
If you have chilled some previously cooked Crispy Chilli Beef, you will need an oven to reheat it. Reheating the Beef in a microwave will make it soggy, but the sauce can be reheated in the microwave.
Pre-heat an oven to 200°C (180°C if fan assisted) and reheat the Beef strips for about 10 minutes or until piping hot again).
In a safe microwave container, add the sauce and heat for around 5-6 minutes. Again, make sure it's piping hot before serving. Once both parts are reheated, mix well together.
Crispy Chilli Beef
A takeaway favourite which can easily be made at home. Making this yourself tastes so much better, there is no greasey texture and no oil involved. At 1 syn per serving, this can easily become a mid-week or fakeaway favourite.
